Responsible Tourism
Responsible travel and sustainability are at the heart of Zazu Epic Safaris conservation values.
Zazu Epic Safaris is committed to responsible travel; from conservation and community initiatives. Our Motto; ‘’leave no Foot prints’’ is encompassed in all aspect of our safari activities. This is why at Zazu, we only use tents for accommodation, we believe that this model of safari is the most pristine way of travel and the least intrusive and damaging to the environment.
Our emblem (Red billed African Hornbill) Zazu, represents our strong conviction in conservation and protection of our environments. Hornbills are one of the most successful species because of their unique interaction with nature.
The red-bill lives in open savanna, woodland and thorn scrub in sub-Saharan Africa. It is an omnivore, eating fruit, insects and small animals. Hornbills are named because the shape of their bill reminded early people of cattle horns. Zazu, a character in the animated film The Lion King is an African red-billed hornbill.
Hospitality School
Zazu Epic Safaris runs a hospitality training school in MAUN, the school caters for young people from marginalised communities in the rural areas of Botswana by training them and securing for them employment in the tourism industry. We sponsor young people from poor backgrounds and vulnerable young girls to undertake courses in cookery, conservation, housekeeping, guiding and waitressing.
In 2013 the school was recognised by GEF (Global Environment Facility) and awarded a tender to capacitate 200 members of communities who live in wildlife management areas in a project named ‘’human wildlife co-existence project’’
Furthermore, the school has also worked with EU to capacitate the sun (Bushman) community from the Tsodilo hills in tourism courses and business administration.
We also have worked with UNDP in capacitating the san (Bushman) community from the Pandamatenga village in tourism courses and business administration.
During your travel to Botswana, ask to pay a visit at the school and witness for yourself the work we do in the community as a way of promoting responsible tourism.
So bring your appreciation for Mother Nature to Botswana, one of Africa’s top-ranked destinations for diverse wilderness and incredible wildlife. Home to numerous national parks, reserves, wildlife management areas, and the world’s largest concentration of African elephants, Botswana is the ideal place to immerse yourself and connect with nature, wildlife ecology, conservation, and more.
